1936 Simplex Servi-Cycle

Reaction to the initial offering of the 1935 Servi-Cycle was so great that in 1936 Simplex cranked up production and truly became a motorbike manufacturer. Many changes were made, while many of the original components were kept or improved.

1936 Engine The engine's main bearings were changed from roller ball bearings to tapered SKF bearings, and the Tillotson MS carburetor was installed, replacing the original mixing valve. Simplex claimed double the pulling and hill climbing power of the original design. The compression release was now routed to the top and bottom of a newly cast cylinder, and the valve was placed at the top. A single 18mm Edison Splitdorf spark plug continued to be used in conjunction with the Eisemann LE-71 magneto. The lever operated throttle system was replaced with a twist grip on the right handlebar.

1936 Front Fender

Chassis changes included double vertical uprights below the seat, instead of the one center upright previously. Also, sculpted fenders were used which had a more rounded appearance and a flared skirt at the rear. The same headlight was again used in 1936.

At this time, Simplex had not yet developed their own branded oil, and Valvoline was recommended by the company for use in their machines.

The engine serial number begins with the four digit year designation "1936" followed by the production sequence number.
